Lean, green machine!

I was trying to do some work at home today. Into my subconscious, from somewhere not too far away, came a loud humming sound. A good excuse for a break! Up I get and off I go to investigate.

Ah, the source of the sound- a little orange man on a little green machine mowing the grass in the park. It rather looks as if he’s having an argument with the blue litter box ... but maybe not!

We’ve had so much rain, creating so much mud that grass everywhere has had a field day ... so to speak. My grass could do with a cut too. Even the daisies are growing free! That little green machine would make a quick job of it!

I wonder, Could I bribe orange man, offer tea and biscuits in exchange for grass cut?
Sadly, probably not.

Could this be the ideal job? Imagine being able to play on one of these little bogies all day, every day ...or, on second thoughts, maybe not.

Chammy clean...

At last! A break in the weather and a little bit of sunshine... I just HAVE to get out there, enjoy the brightness AND clean my car. It’s dirty ... as my daughter pointed out the other day.

Well, it has been raining all the time, was my only defence.

So here goes. I raid the garage and find a bottle of green car wash stuff. That’ll do. The bubbles are quite impressive, don’t you think?

Then, after a good hose down – the chammy. That’s what my mother used to call the piece of chamois leather that she used to dry all the condensation of the windows after yet another freezing Scottish winter! I think her chammy was a real one – made from the skin of a mountain goat or, it being Scotland, maybe a plain old sheep. I don’t know.
My chammy (it’s hanging there on the wing mirror) is a modern synthetic version. It still did a pretty good job of shining up the paintwork.

That’ll do – the forecast is for more rain tomorrow, so in a few days nobody will see the difference.

Why do they do it?

It’s around 11am this Sunday morning; time for a cup of coffee and a little piece of chocolate.

I switch on the TV to check on the latest news from the Beijing Olympics and find that it’s the women’s marathon that’s on at the moment.

That’s when the Why do they do it? question pops into my brain.

I’m all for keeping fit, but running for hours on end seems a bit too extreme. I suppose a little bit of madness is what makes the world go round ... but it’s not for me. I’m feeling tired just watching them.

Big bridge; little people

I drive across this bridge every day on my way to work. I love to glance out and look across the water. It’s always different, just like the weather.

Today df was driving ... we were off to visit his son. At last I had an opportunity to take a photograph of the view that cheers me every morning!

You couldn’t drive a bit slowly so that I can get a good snap, could you?

I’ll try but it is a Motorway so I can’t stop now, can I?

True, I have to concede.

So I had to do the best I could ... window down ... camera at the ready ... here’s what I saw.

Looks like the view from a plane ... what a lot of little people doing their thing on the old bridge. That’s the bridge they want to knock down! Oh dear! What will become of all the fishermen, joggers, walkers, scenic view viewers, etc. if that happens?

Blue sky Sunday

At last! A beautiful sunny Sunday! With a name like this, shouldn’t every Sunday be sunny?

I did my washing and then got my camera out.

Here is Mrs. Monstera...

... and Naughty Nikau
... recorded for posterity!

Dog bones...

... in the supermarket freezer along with ham bones which I sometimes buy for making soup. I do hope they mean bones for the dog although I do know that in some parts of the world dogs are raised for their meat.
Interesting that!

We Westerners tend to consider the eating of dog meat to be a kind of taboo. Hindus don’t eat beef –again, for them, it is a kind of taboo. There are all kinds of taboos around what is acceptable (and what is not acceptable) to be eaten... horse meat, frogs' legs, snails... etc., etc....

Maybe we should just accept that it’s a case of each to their own and not go YUCK at the food choices of others.

Creative spelling!

I pass this shop every day on my way to work... and it drives me nuts!

How would you pronounce the word ‘liqour’? I can’t help thinking ‘lick our’ ... not a nice thought first thing in the morning.

And what about this? It jumped out at me as I passed the window of a shop in our local mall.

Even Google asked me: ‘Did you mean: bangle’... sadly without a question mark! Oh dear!
